There is a monster that lives with me,
Though I have never seen him,
I feel his antagonistic presence daily.

I imagine he looks like a spider.
I feel this from the way in which he crawls in undetected, from the way in which he catches me off guard,from the way in which I become trapped within his webbing.
I feel this from his grasp upon me, like a fly who can not free itself.

I avoid the darkened windows that come at nightfall.
As the world becomes an abyss, anything could be staring back at me as I gaze out of the window.
This fear is irrational on so many levels, there is never anything out there besides an absence of light.
The real threat lies within the very walls I rely on keeping me safe.

It often feels a lie to say I live alone,as I often speak aloud as I know I am heard, I often stay quiet for the same reason.
I often flinch as I know I am in harms way,I often keep my eyes on my computer screen when I know he is watching me.

There is a monster that lives with me.
Though I have never seen him, it is not for the lack of his trying.
He feeds upon my fear, he thrives on my misery.
He longs for my full and undivided attention.

He will never leave me alone, no matter where I go.
All I can do is block him out and ignore him.
Sometime it works and I can have periods of peace and joy,
but then sometimes, he wins.
